Which Lucaffè coffee beans? The five blends compared

The five Lucaffè blends we stock in 1 kg bags, in the roaster's own words: which is 100% Arabica, which is made for the morning and which to choose.

Lucaffè makes five whole-bean blends that we stock in 1 kg bags: Classic, Espresso Bar, Exquisit, Mamma Lucia and Mister Exclusive. Mister Exclusive is the one 100% Arabica blend of the five. The other four are Italian espresso blends that Lucaffè tunes for different drinkers, from the soft and sweet Classic to Mamma Lucia, its intense morning coffee.

Who makes Lucaffè?

Gian Luca Venturelli founded Lucaffè in 1996 on Lake Garda, in northern Italy. The company has its registered office at Padenghe sul Garda and its operational site at Carpenedolo, both in the province of Brescia. You will also see the name written Lucaffe, Lucaffé or Lucafe; it is the same roaster.

How do the five blends differ?

The descriptions below are Lucaffè's own, from its Italian product pages, in our translation.

  • Classic: "soft and sweet, the classic Italian espresso". A blend of Arabica with an addition of Robusta, with a sweet taste, a generous and soft body and a medium-dense crema.
  • Espresso Bar: "the constant, unmistakable taste of Italian espresso". A balance of several coffees, sweet, intense and very creamy. Lucaffè recommends it for quality vending.
  • Exquisit: "sweet with brio". For people who like the quality of Arabica but also want a small, intense note of chocolatey Robusta.
  • Mamma Lucia: Lucaffè's best seller. An intense coffee meant for the morning, a traditional Italian espresso blend first made for vending, with a firm but sweet body.
  • Mister Exclusive: 100% Arabica from the tropical growing areas of South America, Asia and central Africa. Lucaffè describes its aroma as toasted bread.

Which one should you choose?

  • If you want a sweet, rounded espresso to drink every day, start with Classic.
  • If you want an all-Arabica cup, choose Mister Exclusive.
  • If you like Arabica but want a small, chocolatey note of Robusta, try Exquisit.
  • If you want a strong first coffee of the day, Mamma Lucia is the one Lucaffè designed for that.
  • If the coffee goes into a vending or office machine, Espresso Bar is the blend Lucaffè recommends for vending.

Beans only: what you need

All five are sold as whole beans, so you need a grinder or a bean-to-cup machine. Once a bag is open, keep it sealed, cool and out of the light; our guide on keeping coffee fresh at home covers the details.
