Which xylitol? Granulated or fine, 250 g to 1 kg

Xylitol is a sweetener you use spoon for spoon like sugar: the label on our Buy Trusted Food bags says one teaspoon of xylitol equals one teaspoon of sugar. We sell four bags: 250 g, 500 g and 1 kg of the standard grain, and a 1 kg bag of fine granulated xylitol.

Two warnings first.Xylitol is dangerous to dogs: keep the bag, and anything you make with it, out of their reach. And, as the label says, excessive consumption may produce laxative effects, so start with small amounts.

What does the label say?

• Ingredients: 100% xylitol.
• Usage: 1 teaspoon of xylitol = 1 teaspoon of sugar.
• It can be used in baking and cooking, but not with yeast.
• Per 100 g: 240 kcal and 100 g carbohydrate, of which 0 g sugars and 100 g polyols.
• Gluten free, and suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
• Storage: in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.

Which bag should you buy?

• 250 g, to try it in drinks and a recipe or two.
• 500 g, for everyday use in drinks.
• 1 kg, if you bake with it or use it every day.
• 1 kg fine granulated, listed in our shop as fine powder: a smaller grain than the standard bags, for example for sprinkling over fruit or a dessert.

How do you use it?

Follow the label and use it spoon for spoon in place of sugar in drinks, yoghurt, desserts and bakes. The label also says it does not work with yeast, so keep ordinary sugar in a yeasted dough.

Xylitol or erythritol?

Who makes it?

Buy Trusted Food is Crema Aroma's own brand, sold in the UK only by Crema Aroma. The label says the xylitol is imported from the EU and packed for us in Livingston, Scotland.
