Yerba Mate CBSé Guarana Energy 500g

CBS are an Argentinian house working con palos — with stems — and blending in herbs rather than selling the leaf plain. This one carries guaraná.

Hot in a gourd, or cold. Guaraná makes it a heavier, rounder cup than plain leaf, and it takes chilling well.

The traditional way is a gourd and a bombilla. Fill the gourd three-quarters with yerba, tip it to one side and shake so the powder settles, then wet the leaf with cool water and let it swell before any heat touches it — that is what stops the bombilla clogging. Top up with water at about 75 to 80°C, never boiling. A French press works if you have no gourd.

Five hundred grams. Store in a cool, dry place, away from strong smells — tea and chocolate both take on whatever is next to them.
